Betamethasone 17-valerate is a pregnane. AndTopical corticosteroids share anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and vasoconstrictive actions. The mechanism of anti-inflammatory activity of the topical coricosteroids is unclear. Various laboratory method, including vasoconstrictor assays, are used to compare and predict potencies and clinical efficacies of the topical corticosteroids.
